Why Qtrust
Why Digital Economy
Our research-backed approach towards the digital economy opportunity in Kenya is informed by our collaborations with international development agencies and our lived experiences.
As a social enterprise, we drive sustainable careers for Kenya’s youth, fostering innovation and creativity through our Entrepreneurship Hub.
The digital economy is expected to contribute 9.24% to Kenya’s GDP by 2025, highlighting its significant impact on economic development and job creation. Since 2016, the ICT sector has seen an annual growth of 10.8%, reflecting Kenya’s increasing digital readiness.
Despite high secondary education completion rates, 67% of Kenyan youth remain unemployed or underemployed, underscoring the urgent need for digital skills and employment opportunities. With 32.7% internet penetration and 82% electricity access in 2023, Kenya is well-positioned to leverage its tech-savvy, young population, which makes up 29% of the total population.
The digital economy, valued at 1.4 trillion KSH, can address these challenges, creating a thriving ecosystem that fosters innovation and sustainable careers for Kenyan youth. Testimonials from Qhala’s Fellowship Programmes further illustrate the transformative potential of digital literacy and entrepreneurship in empowering the next generation.
